Hyundai key technology changes by model, generation and equipment
A Hyundai smart key complaint may come from the fob, its battery, radio interference, the 12V vehicle battery or where the key is being carried. Hyundai even warns that a mobile phone close to the smart key can interfere with the signal. We therefore ask what still works and under what conditions rather than immediately selling a new fob.
1Remote + immobiliser keys
Earlier Hyundai models use conventional remotes combined with immobiliser coding.
2Hyundai Smart Key
Later models can lock/unlock and start while an authorised smart key is detected near or inside the vehicle.
3Hyundai Digital Key
Selected newer vehicles add smartphone-based key capability through Hyundai connected services.
