Terms & Conditions

The terms on which we supply auto locksmith services across Peterborough — covering bookings, pricing, proof of ownership, cancellation rights and our guarantee.

1. About these terms

These terms and conditions set out the basis on which Auto Locksmith Peterborough supplies auto locksmith services to you. They apply whenever you instruct us to attend a vehicle, produce a key, or carry out any other work described on our services page.

By booking a job with us — by telephone, WhatsApp, email, social media, or through the enquiry form on our contact page — you accept these terms. Please read them before you book. If there is anything you do not understand, call us on 01733 590409 and we will explain it.

Your statutory rights

Nothing in these terms removes or limits your rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or any other law that cannot be excluded by agreement. Where anything in these terms conflicts with those rights, your statutory rights take priority.

2. Definitions

  • “We”, “us”, “our” means Auto Locksmith Peterborough.
  • “You”, “your”, “the customer” means the person or business instructing us.
  • “The vehicle” means the car, van or other vehicle we are asked to attend.
  • “The work” means the services you have asked us to carry out.
  • “Call-out” means attendance at the location of the vehicle.
  • “All keys lost” means a job where no working key to the vehicle exists.

3. Our services and coverage area

We provide mobile auto locksmith services including emergency call-out, non-destructive vehicle entry, car key replacement, key cutting, spare key supply, transponder programming, van key replacement, and immobiliser installation.

We operate across Peterborough and the surrounding towns and villages. If you are unsure whether your location is covered, call us before booking — we will tell you honestly rather than accept a job we cannot reach in reasonable time.

We are a mobile service. We do not operate a walk-in premises, and all work is carried out at the location of the vehicle unless we agree otherwise in advance.

4. Booking and call-outs

A contract between us is formed when we confirm that we will attend, having agreed the service, the location and the price or price range.

Any time estimate we give for arrival is an estimate made in good faith based on our location, traffic and current workload. It is not a guaranteed time. Where traffic, weather or an earlier job overrunning means we will be significantly delayed, we will contact you as soon as we reasonably can and you may cancel without charge.

You must give us accurate information when booking, in particular the vehicle make, model, year and registration, and the exact location of the vehicle. If the information you give us is materially wrong and this means we attend without the correct equipment, key blank or software, we may charge a £99 plus VAT call-out fee for the wasted visit.

You must be present at the vehicle, or arrange for an authorised adult to be present, at the agreed time. If nobody is present and we cannot reach you, we may leave after a reasonable wait and charge a £99 plus VAT call-out fee.

5. Proof of ownership and entitlement

We will not open a vehicle or produce a key for anyone who cannot show they are entitled to have that work done. This protects vehicle owners and it is a condition of us doing the work.

Before starting, we may ask to see the V5C registration certificate, photographic identification, proof of address matching the registered keeper, insurance documentation, or a hire, lease or company authority letter. We may also carry out our own checks on the vehicle.

We reserve the absolute right to refuse or stop any job where we are not satisfied as to entitlement, and we do not have to give reasons. Where we attend and then decline the work for this reason, a £99 plus VAT call-out fee remains payable.

Details of how we handle any documents you show us are set out in our privacy policy.

6. Quotes, pricing and payment

Prices depend on the vehicle, the key type, the security system fitted, the time of day and your location. Where we can give a fixed price over the phone we will. Where we can only give a range — which is common on all-keys-lost jobs and newer vehicles — we will explain why, and confirm the final price before starting work.

VAT registered

Auto Locksmith Peterborough is VAT registered. Unless a price is expressly stated to include VAT, all prices quoted are exclusive of VAT and VAT will be added at the applicable rate.

Any quote given before we have seen the vehicle is based on the information you have supplied. If the vehicle turns out to differ materially — for example a different key system, an aftermarket immobiliser, or existing damage to the lock or ignition — we will stop, explain the position and give you a revised price. You are free to decline at that point, in which case only the £99 plus VAT call-out fee is payable.

Unless agreed otherwise in writing, payment is due in full on completion of the work. We accept the payment methods advised at the time of booking. Where a key or component has to be ordered specifically for your vehicle, we may require payment in advance or a deposit; such parts are non-returnable once ordered.

For business and fleet customers on agreed credit terms, invoices are payable within the agreed period. We reserve the right to charge statutory interest and compensation on late commercial payments.

7. Access, parking and site conditions

You must ensure we have safe and lawful access to the vehicle. We may decline or postpone work where the location is unsafe, where the vehicle is in a live traffic lane, on an unlit road, in flood water, or where we would be working in conditions that put our locksmith or your vehicle at risk.

Where the vehicle is on private land, in a secured car park, or in a multi-storey, you are responsible for arranging access and for any parking or access charges incurred.

Some electronic key programming requires a stable vehicle battery voltage. If the battery is flat or weak, programming may not be possible until it is charged or replaced, and additional time or cost may apply.

8. Non-destructive entry and its limits

We use non-destructive methods wherever it is reasonably possible to do so, and this is our default approach on lockouts. However, non-destructive entry cannot be guaranteed on every vehicle.

On some vehicles — particularly certain modern models with reinforced door frames, deadlocking systems, or where a lock is already damaged, seized or worn — entry may only be achievable by a method that risks damage to a component, or may not be achievable at all without replacing a part.

Where that is the case we will stop and explain the options, including any likely cost, before proceeding. We will not use a destructive method without your express agreement. If you decide not to proceed, only the £99 plus VAT call-out fee is payable.

9. Vehicle condition and pre-existing faults

You must tell us about any known fault with the vehicle’s locks, ignition, immobiliser, battery, alarm or electrical system, and about any previous locksmith, bodyshop or auto-electrical work, before we begin. This includes any aftermarket alarm, immobiliser or tracking device fitted.

We are not responsible for pre-existing damage or faults, or for a failure that arises from them. Where we identify a pre-existing issue we will point it out before starting.

Where the vehicle has been subject to previous unauthorised or non-professional key work, or where the locking or immobiliser system has been tampered with, we may decline the job or may only be able to proceed on the basis that the outcome cannot be guaranteed.

10. Keys, programming and all-keys-lost work

Where we programme a new key to your vehicle, this may involve the vehicle’s immobiliser or key memory. On some vehicles, adding a key requires all existing keys to be present and reprogrammed; on others, previously lost keys can be erased from memory. We will explain which applies to your vehicle before starting, and we strongly recommend erasing lost keys where the system allows it.

Programming work on modern vehicles involves communicating with vehicle control modules. While we use professional diagnostic equipment and follow correct procedures, there is a small inherent risk on any vehicle with an existing electrical fault, a weak battery, or a previously modified module. By instructing us you acknowledge this risk. It does not reduce our responsibility for work we carry out negligently.

Keys and remotes supplied by us are covered by the guarantee in section 12. Keys supplied by you, or sourced by you from a third party, are not covered, and we cannot guarantee they will programme successfully; where they do not, our time remains chargeable.

We recommend that every driver keeps a working spare. Our spare key service is considerably cheaper than an emergency all-keys-lost call-out.

11. Cancellation, call-out charge and your right to cancel

Because we agree our services with you away from our business premises, you generally have a legal right to cancel within 14 days under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.

Emergency lockouts and urgent key replacement are, by their nature, work you need immediately. If you ask us to begin the work within the 14-day cancellation period, you are making an express request for it to start straight away. In that case:

  • You may still cancel within 14 days, but you must pay for the work already carried out up to the point of cancellation, in proportion to the full price;
  • Once the service has been fully performed at your express request, the right to cancel is lost.

To cancel, contact us by phone or email using the details in section 18. You do not have to give a reason.

£99 + VAT cancellation / call-out charge

If you cancel after our locksmith has been dispatched or has started travelling to the agreed location, or after arrival, a fixed £99 plus VAT cancellation/call-out charge will be payable to cover the reserved appointment, travel and attendance. The same charge may apply to a no-show, materially incorrect booking information, inability to obtain authorised access to the vehicle, or refusal to proceed after attendance where the actual job differs materially from the information supplied.

If you cancel before our locksmith has been dispatched, there is normally no £99 call-out charge unless a vehicle-specific key or component has already been ordered, or other non-recoverable costs have been incurred with your agreement.

If we cancel the booking, or if we are unable to attend and no travel or work has begun, the £99 call-out fee will not be charged. Nothing in this section overrides any statutory right you have to cancel without charge where the law requires that result.

12. Our guarantee

We will carry out the work with reasonable care and skill, using materials of satisfactory quality.

Keys, remotes and components supplied and fitted by us are guaranteed against manufacturing defect and against faulty programming for the guarantee period advised to you at the time of the work and recorded on your invoice or receipt. If you are unsure what applies to your job, call us and we will confirm it.

The guarantee does not cover physical damage, water damage, wear, loss, battery depletion, damage caused by a third party working on the vehicle afterwards, or a failure caused by a pre-existing fault in the vehicle.

If something we have supplied or done is not right, contact us first. We will inspect it and, where the fault is ours, put it right at no cost to you.

13. Our liability to you

We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking this contract or failing to use reasonable care and skill.

We are not liable for:

  • Loss or damage that was not foreseeable at the time the contract was made;
  • Pre-existing damage, wear or faults, or the consequences of them;
  • Loss of use, loss of earnings, loss of profit or other purely commercial loss where you are a business customer;
  • Delay or failure caused by events outside our reasonable control, including severe weather, road closures, accidents, industrial action, supplier failure or utility failure.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Where you are a business customer, our total liability in connection with any job is limited to the price paid for that job.

14. Complaints procedure

If you are unhappy with any part of our service, tell us as soon as possible. Call 01733 590409 or email hello@peterboroughautolocksmith.co.uk with your name, the date of the job, the vehicle registration and a description of the problem.

We will acknowledge your complaint within 2 working days and aim to resolve it within 10 working days. Where we need to inspect the vehicle, we will arrange a convenient time with you. If we cannot resolve matters within that period we will tell you why and give you a revised timescale.

If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force. If we do not insist on a term immediately, that does not prevent us from enforcing it later.

We may update these terms from time to time. The version published on this page at the time you book is the version that applies to your job.
